Abstract
The $\sigma t^{\pm}$ strength distribution as a function of the excitation energy is investigated in the framework of the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation. The results are compared with the available experimental data for ${}^{54}{\rm Fe}$ and with the results of recent shell model calculations. It is demonstrated that the full single-particle space has to be used in order to describe the GT strength function correctly.
