High-spin states in nuclei around 208Pb were populated in deep inelastic collisions of 136Xe and 208Pb projectiles with 208Pb targets at beam energies about 12% above the Coulomb barrier. New states in nuclei in the vicinity of 208Pb have been found that result from the coupling of one and two quasi particles to the lowest 3− excitation of the 208Pb core. They show the influence of particle octupole-vibration coupling in a pronounced and clear way and verify the validity of this concept.
