New descriptions of phase/shape transition regions in nuclei

Phase transitional behavior, critical-point symmetries, and the low-energy nuclear phase diagram are discussed, with emphasis on the behavior of simple spectroscopic observables. A perspective on the low-energy nuclear phase diagram from the standpoint of Landau theory is presented as well.
