The optical model parameters, the coupled-channel parameters and excitation mode β2 , β3 and β5 deformation parameters corresponding to the best fit to the experimental differential cross-sections and the analyzing powers data for the p- 40Ar elastic and inelastic scattering were determined. The ambiguity in the spin and parity of the 4.43±0.05 MeV state of 40Ar was solved by the assignment of the 5- value for this state. Also, for the 40Ar nucleus a first-degree vibrational model was found to be suitable.
