The α decay half-lives of 186−224Po, 190−228At, 193−229Rn, 197−230Fr, and 201−233Ra have been systematically studied using the Modified Generalized Liquid Drop Model (MGLDM). The predicted values are in agreement with experimental data and with the values computed using other empirical formulae. The standard deviation of obtained for MGLDM is 0.388 which suggests that the present formalism can effectively be used for alpha decay studies of heavy nuclei. The role of neutron shell closure at N = 126 in alpha decay is evident from our study. The Geiger-Nuttall law, new Geiger-Nuttall law, Brown law, and Universal law are studied. The linear nature of these laws reveal the reliability of MGLDM and is also helpful in calculating half-lives of newly synthesized and unknown isotopes.
