We analyze the effect of an intense linearly polarized laser field on the alpha decay of hydrogen-like Po-212. The time-varying electric field of a laser-driven electron is used to investigate the tunnelling rate of the alpha particle and thus the nuclear decay. This behaviour of the alpha particle comes out of time-dependent Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation. The indirect influence of laser field shows a linear increase in -decay rate, though the corresponding modifications in half-lives are very small. The present model is also applicable to calculate the proton tunnelling rates.
